Learning Agreement

This is something we have to do in order to track out progress according to few simple questions about our own project like:

WHAT?

WHY?

HOW?

WHERE?

It keeps on changing thereby giving us as well as the viewer a clearer view about our thoughts and how we progressed until here.

Below is the first draft of my LA.

Brief Explanation / Outline of Project

This project is about SUSTAINABILITY IN HOSPITALITY DESIGN. It is about not only making the hotel as a sustainable building or a fixed structure for tourist but to make something astonishing out of it making the full use of whatever material I will be using and not only using the properties of the material I will be using but explore it to its origin and embed it into the design to justify my project theme completely. Like for now let’s say WOOD would be my prime material so I just so I don’t want to make it look like a cottage or something but I also want it to reflect its origin like it comes from a TREE.

Context / Rationale

I always worked on small scale projects like furniture design, some part of residential, so this time I want to kind of step out of my comfort zone as I want to make this M.A worth. Then when I moved to UK and saw the international exposure that was the time when I got interested in Tourism. What role does it play and How it can affect the economy and culture of a country? So, there comes the HOTEL. Then about sustainable design concept because I was always fascinated by wood personally. Wooden houses as we don’t have them in India very much but its feels so much alive than living in a concrete or stone house. You can feel your presence in the house and also you can feel the creaking sound of wood, its smell, and its antic look even when it gets old. And on researching it came out it the best sustainable material.

Key Areas of Research

I started with the most basic element i.e. Tourist or Holiday. Start asking questions like what makes a person go on a tour and why someone needs a day off. Then from there I went to hotels like why they go for hotels and what kind of hotels they opt for and why? I keep asking questions and it’s like laying a pathway for my project because as I kept providing me the answers I can see my project coming into shape and it all start feeling real deep. Then for a change I start working on some materials and as I say I started with wood only and after looking into it and other aspects of it at least I was sure of one thing and i.e. the material of my project.

Intended Outcomes of Project Well the outcome is not yet some definite design or structure but yeah I expect it to be like the pods hanging on a tree branch in the form of rooms, suites and other services of the hotels. I have some plans to not make it a steady one as I told you so the pods will be attached to drones and you can be dropped off at your location where you want to go after checking out. It will be like today we get a complimentary breakfast or any other service varies with hotels.
