Learning Agreement

This is another version of learning agreement answering the same questions about our own project but bit of a descriptive and questions be like:

WHAT?

WHY?

HOW?

WHERE?

It keeps on changing thereby giving us as a clearer view about our thoughts and how we progressed until here.

Below is the Learning Agreement with a much clearer perspective in as we progressed in Semester 2.

Brief Explanation / Outline of Project

The project was based on combining technology with design and this does not mean just using it to save the energy and efficient production or something. Instead it actually kind of converting technology into design. It’s more or less the same process going on right now of converting robots into humans using Artificial Intelligence AI to use them for the tasks other than just being programmed for doing the same task over and over again i.e. to make them able to think. And that’s exactly what my project is based on:

“A HOTEL THAT THINK.”

Although the concept is not much different from the refence I gave about the robots but the thought just makes a whole lot difference between THINKING ROBOT and A THINKING BUILDING. It will basically work on the concept of AI except for the part that it will help the traveller in the best possible and that too without destroying the fun of travelling like other techs and gadgets seems to do so.

Context / Rationale

No more than 15 years ago, we were watching sci-fi films that boggled the mind and tested the limits of our imagination. Facial recognition technology, fingerprint biometrics, intelligent phones and computers that talked to people, functional artificial intelligence; all of this seemed worlds away when Tom Cruise and Will Smith were in their action movie prime. Here we are now in such a fast-paced world and surrounded by all these techs and gadgets I thought why not be the sugar in the water and design something to make it go along with this trend. That’s when I got hit by the idea of Artificial intelligence or AI.

Moreover, these fancy and high end gadgets always fancy me in some way or the other and I always just keep getting dragged towards them and keep looking into the details and start revealing deeper secrets on how we are surrounded by this technology and how it is helping us in every ongoing phase of our life. So, that’s how it leads me to the question “What if we can put it to use on a public basis like making a hotel Intelligent?”. It might just act as a helping hand or just one less task of planning the whole trip when all you have to do is just book the hotel because the hotel will do it for YOU. So, I checked the progress and developments going on in this context and came across the concept of using robots in hotels thereby eliminating all the manpower but what I decided to go with is eliminating the robots. Instead make the hotel a ROBOT.

Key Areas of Research

I started my project with the word AI. Because at first it would be really helpful if I could understand it in a proper way about where it stands and what is happening about it outside right now. Then only I can make a difference. So, I looked for AI-Artificial Intelligence and while drilling through I started with AI in hotels to know if they are being used currently. There I got a list of things about what is being planned for future concepts and stuff.

I keep looking into that to see what difference I can make if from what’s already planned. I looked into tech giants like Google, Amazon, Apple and what progress they are doing in this field. I even found a merger between Google, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM to go ahead with these automated future plans.

I searched for robots and AI and how they are being used in Hotels when I came through a post about Henn-na Hotel, Japan and how it is the most advanced hotel in the world until now who is actually using robots to greet and help guests. I even looked into driverless cars just to understand the concept of automated future and automated hotels clearly and how they are being used to enhance hospitality industry. After conducting a thorough research, I decided to move on the final phase of what I am going to do with the help of data I gathered in all my research and findings on internet about all what’s going on and what’s planned.

Intended Outcomes of Project What’s already planned is a hotel run by robots but what I expect out of this is a Smart Hotel i.e. who can take care of their guests on its own. Getting to know about their needs, likes, dislikes and other qualities about them before they step in the hotel. A place where a guest can experience real future but without destroying or sucking out the fun from their original tour or experience of the place they came to visit. Like for instance, it will help them to ease out their day by giving a planned itinerary for the day with all the details and places they should visit or that might interest them but also at the time providing it in such a way that the guest can’t resist from going out and following it. Or let’s say a gamer or game designer came for a stay and after getting done with the work while looking for an overwhelming experience the hotel can organise a tournament between another country hotel a competition of LIVE: CALL OF DUTY with the same kind of guest at another hotel across the border. That’s what I call a Smart Hotel which not only can provide a place to stay or a room to sleep but can add some meaning to their trip without spoiling the actual adventure like an icing on the cake. I intend to help them socialize with the help of their own gadgets like hotel will gather their details because they all connect to the same Wi-Fi and then set up meetings or create circumstances to make two people meet crossing their like and dislikes and or may be of both are single and looking for a partner for instance. That’s the kind of technology I that not only keep them involved but help them in an anonymous way.
